Unfortunately, I have been going to a lot of funerals lately. Okay... It's only been two. However, it's been two within a week of each other; they were for family members (and aunt and a cousin); and, the last funeral I went to before these last two was only 6 months ago. That is a lot of funerals. It needs to stop.
The only good thing about going to funerals is I get to see relatives that I don't normally get to see that often. In fact, for my aunt's funeral, I hadn't seen those relatives for well over 6-7 years. But, even the reunion does off-set the purpose of the meeting.
Of course, there is always talk about how "we need to get together on a happier occasion" but no one ever does anything about it. One side of the family used to do family reunions every 4 years. I was fantastic, and people were able to keep more in touch. When there was a funeral, people felt a little better with the knowledge that it hadn't been so long since they last saw each other or the person who just passed away. However, the whole family reunion thing sort of died down when Grams' generation died off. Mum's generation won't do anything. They're too busy complaining about their failing health and the "damn economy."
I think it is going to be up to my generation. I think it is going to be up to me.
