Memorial Weekend

We had no big plans for our Memorial holiday weekend because there really wasn't anything for us to do.  Then Friday rolled around, and my editor called to tell me he wanted me to rewrite 3 chapters - adding at least another 4000 words per chapter - and he wanted it done by Tuesday.  But as Friday evening rolled around, I hadn't gotten started on anything.  Saturday and Sunday morning came and it was more about garden work then it was about writing.  But that was okay... With the sun out shining, how could we not take advantage?

Mum immediately pulled out the market umbrella we had bought about 7 years ago.  We bought this umbrella but we never used it.  Summer and the nicer weather often came and went without us really noticing (except for the heat) because we were too busy working.  But now that Mum has retired and I'm not longer in graduate school, we are doing the things we always meant to do but never did.  Including pulling out that umbrella from the garage and putting it up.

We put out the humming bird feeders about a week ago, and this weekend was the first weekend we had humming birds pay us a visit.  Of course, I didn't have my camera with me at the time.

And Mum started her old summer ritual of sun tea.  She's the only one in the house who drinks it, but as long as Dawn and I get our lemonade - we're good.

We planted the snap dragons.  Interestingly, snap dragons are traditionally annuals.  However, we have such good luck with them they are perennials.  The red container bursting with flowers was actually planted last year.  Luckily for us, snap dragons are one of my favorite summer flowers.

Then there are Dawn's strawberry plants.  Unfortunately, the autumn storms we had last year broke up the giant planter we use to plant Dawn's strawberries but they plants are still going strong.  I wanted to transplant them into a new planter we have, but they began blooming sooner than I anticipated so I'm waiting until the plants of stopped producing fruit before transplanting them into the new planter.

And then, under the market umbrella, we had our lunch.  Lovin' the colorful plates.  Hope your Memorial holiday weekend was as fabulous as our weekend.
