Peonies... The Girliest Flower of All

The peonies are out in force this year.  I love peonies, but I have to say that I find them to be extremely girlie.  Never mind all the pinks, creams, whites, and yellows... Look at all the ruffles! It looks like all the petals are ruffles (and some could easily pass for bows).

But I love photographing peonies.  They perfect little models - aching to be photographed.

Look at this beauty.  I have no doubt that if she had eyes, she would be batting them at my camera in a coy, flirtatious manner that only peonies can convey.

And peonies have become the big deal flower for bridal bouquets.  It's no wonder!  Did you know that in Victorian times, a peony translated to mean a happy marriage.  Though it also meant bashfulness, shame, anger, and compassion (this flower is a multi-tasker).

All hail the girlie flower... Peonies!

  2. I love peonies but don't have any in my yard because they are so expensive! Your photos are very pretty, very girly...they remind me of tutus! Just this morning on our walk, my dog peed on the neighbors peony bush. I had to snicker...peeing on peeonies! Then we hurried past before he got caught.

  3. I, too, love peonies. I have a yard full of them and I bring them in to the house and float them frequently. That and lilacs. I know you also like them. I am enjoying your summer blogs. Love you all.
