Mt. Baker

One of the great things about where I live is all the fabulous nature around us.  We have the Pacific Ocean, islands, lakes, rivers, mountains, old growth forest, and all sorts of wonderful things.  It is even more fabulous when you love photography like I do... Like my family does.

Feeling the itch to take a few photographs, we decided to head up to Mt. Baker.  It had been hot, too hot, so we thought we could enjoy the cooler mountain air and play in the snow.

This is Mt Shuksan which stands next to Mt. Baker.  This area of the mountain is called the Artist Point, and often time you'll find painters and photographers down by the lake - trying to capture Mt Shuksan's reflection in the water.

This is another view point - a new one Dawn and I discovered on this trip.  There always seems to be new changes to the mountain every time we go up there, but this view was the most dramatic change for us.

The blue skies and occasional cloud looked fabulous with all the snow still on the ground.

But all the snow was difficult to get around - though cooling in our shorts and t-shirts.

It was difficult to get around because we were wearing flip flops - our shoes of choice for all year around.

But slipping and sliding, nearly tumbling on the snow, was well worth it.  Look at the view (and you should have heard the laughter from Dawn and I).

But we weren't the only ones beating the summer heat.  There were snowboarders and sledding folks, some dressed in jeans and t-shirts while others were dressed in swim suits.  Regardless of what they were wearing or whether they were boarding or sledding, they were all having fun.  Just another reason to love the area we live in.

  1. Your pictures are really breathtaking! Flip flops in the snow could lead to frostbitten toesies! Mt. Baker is such a landmark for those of us lucky enough to live in it's shadow. I hope to make a trip up when the leaves change color.
