Hello, Monday! The Bread Farm...

Out in the flat lands of the Skagit river valley is a little village called Edison.  This little village is fully of charm and character, but it is especially well known for two things:  the Oyster Run (an event that beckons motorcyclists from near and far) and the Breadfarm.

We're familiar with the Breadfarm because they seem to be at every Farmers' Market we've ever been too in Whatcom, Skagit, and Island counties.  But we decided, while out and about, to take the long way and swing through Edison - stopping at the home base of the Breadfarm to see what was available.

It wasn't difficult to find stuff.  Lots of good stuff.  The first thing I zoomed in on were these shortbread cookies.

As you can see from the label, the ingredients they use are primarily organic.

We bought a few bits and pieces along the way like these Mexican tea cookies (which taste an awful lot like a tea cookie Mum has made since I was a child, but they aren't called Mexican tea cookies).  And these hazelnut macrons.  I admit, I've never had macrons before.  I'm impressed.

I bought this cinnamon snail for me... not too sweet, which is what I prefer.

Dawn picked out this apple danish for herself.

Mum chose this... I don't know what the name of it is but it was like a croissant with little chocolate chunks in it.  She said it was too dry and didn't have enough chocolate in it.  All I know is that it was messy to eat because it flaked so badly.

We also bought this bread for our dinner that night.  We were having a shrimp and rice dish that Mum makes, and I thought it would be a good idea to make some garlic bread.  I needed the bread part, so I bought these babies.

But we couldn't wait to sample the shortbread cookies until we got home, so we opened the packages.  This is the Vanilla Shortbread cookie.

Full of lovely vanilla goodness.  However, not my favorite.  I guess I'm a butter shortbread cookie.

These are the whiskey shortbread cookie.

I could definitely taste the whiskey.  It has a nice punch to it.

If ever you're in the Edison, Washington area... Definitely swing by the Breadfarm.  Their freshly made baked goods are fabulous - especially their breads, though I do recommend that cinnamon snail.  The price is a bit steep and they only accept cash or checks, so make sure you swing by an ATM before you go.  Unfortunately, I didn't so I had to go to the neighboring bar and use their ATM machine, which meant steep fees.

That's the Breadfarm, folks!  Hope you get the chance to sample their offerings.  Enjoy your Monday!

  1. Oh I love pain au chocolat - it should be buttery and short and most are slightly dry.

I also love the idea of a place called the Bread farm. Yum!
