Speaking to Heron

The weather this weekend was just down-right gloomy.  There was a lot of rain, even more wind, and temperatures warm enough to require no jacket (though wearing one was highly advisable considering all the rain).  And since I hadn't been out and about all that much because of being so busy with work (as you could also probably tell from my lack of blogging presence), I decided to drag Mum and Dawn out into the rain and do a little photography.

The family loves going for little drives and seeing what discoveries we can make.  And every time, I bring my 40 pound camera back along.  Unfortunately, I've been having some troubles with my cameras (and one very annoying lens) but I managed to get some pretty good shots.  The overwhelming theme of the weekend seemed to be birds... Eagles, heron, swans, snow geese, hawks, etc.

However the heron were out in droves.  So, I snapped more than a few shots of them.  Some even allowed me to get close enough to get these great shots.  Unfortunately, heron are very skittish birds - especially during this time of the year (duck hunting season).  However, these guys allowed me to go snap happy on them.  It probably helped there were no duck hunters around.

This one apparently found the cold of the Pacific, wind, and rain to be a little too bracing because he decided to squat down a bit.  However, he couldn't squat down enough for me not to see him.  Love this shot!

Happy Monday!
