- FamilySearch - A free site but with limited information.
- FindMyPast - A free site but with limited information
- MyHeritage - Free but not complete. There are only a few states that are accessible right now, but their goal is to have all the states.
- National Archives and Records Administration - Free but there is no index. What does that mean for you? It means you have to search their images by enumeration district. My advice? Make this your last visit.

Have you heard? The 1940 census for the United States has been released and is accessible for all those would-be family researchers out there. Because it is still a new release, there are many wrinkles that are being ironed out; however, here are a few internet sites where you can access the 1940 census index.
