Sister Day and Cupcakes...

Yesterday was Sister Day.  Sister Day is a day when Dawn and I go out and spend the day together.  We do fun things like have picnics, take photographs, watch a movie, go for a hike, or whatever it is that strikes our fancy.  We have these Sister Day celebrations several times a year, and every time Dawn gets so excited that she doesn't sleep too well the night before and we end up cutting our Sister Day short because she's fallen asleep while we're driving around.  Yesterday's Sister Day was a reschedule of the day before's Sister Day because Dawn had gotten absolutely no sleep the night before and within an hour of leaving the house - she was zonked out.  So, we cancelled and rescheduled.  Only this time, I decided not to tell her about the rescheduling so she could get some sleep the night before.

Yesterday we were suppose to go out and take photographs, have a picnic, and even run a few errands.  Only it didn't exactly happen.  It had nothing to do with Dawn getting any sleep (she got a full night's rest), nor did it have anything to do with my lack of sleep (I spent half the night working on Mum's laptop).  It had everything to do with the cold rain that poured outside.  It made it very difficlt to go out and take photographs without getting our cameras drenched in the downpour.

We did a few things, but the one thing we did do - partly for fun and partly to sooth our disappointment - was to go to the cupcake shop and purchase a few cupcakes.  There are a few shops around town, but the one place we keep going back to is Katie's Cupcakes in Fairhaven.  Here a few of the flavors we purchased...

Dawn is allergic to chocolate, so she always goes for the non-chocolate selection.  What is great about Katie's Cupcakes is they have just as many non-chocolate options and they do chocolate - rare in today's chocolate-centric world.  This one is Cherry Cheesecake.

I selected the classic cupcake:  Vanilla with chocolate frosting.  What can I say? I'm a sucker for a daisy - even if it is in sugar form.

Dawn's second selection was the Applie Pie cupcake.  It is a cupcake that is simple and to-the-point.  At least according to Mum, who we bought this cupcake for too.

Then there is the Chocoholic cupcake.  I always purchase this cupcake in the mini cupcake size because it is just too much chocolate for me in the regular size.

And of course, it just isn't any fun purchasing cupcakes without digging in.  Or, at least in my case, chomping down.

Happy Friday!

  1. Cupcakes in Fairhaven are a very suitable substitute for a picnic when the weather is bad. Looks like a good time was had by all!

  2. See I could certainly go for the chocoholic one but think I might need to get the mini one as it looks so rich!
