In an area where my family has strong connections, there are miles and miles of fields brimming with all sorts of goods. Everything from fruit - apples, cherries, peaches, etc. - to peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, mint, and hops. And that is just to name a few. Luckily all those rows of fruit, veg, and herbs - the green minimizes all that brown. Otherwise, it would essentially be a place of nothing but beige.
But the last time I went to the area, I decided to bring out my camera and snap a few photos.
Plenty of apple blossoms.
In both white and pink.
Then there are the hops. This is what my relatives grew about 50 to 75 years ago. My Grams, because she wasn't afraid of heights, was the one who would climb up to the top and cut the hop vines. Apparently, back then, they didn't have child labor laws.
But the big crop is grapes. And all those grapes go into wines. Award-winning wines. Apparently this area gives California's Sonoma Valley quite a lot of competition. And I admit to be a bit shocked by all the wineries that have popped up in the area since the last time I was there.
But look at this view! Look at what these apples, grapes, hops get a view of... Mt. Adams. Why wouldn't there be a bountiful harvest with views like this?
Look at the deep green mint fields in the foreground of the above image! Fantastic! And for me, I can always smell the approach of a mint field well before seeing it.
And by the time you are reading this, I'll be on the road driving back. I'm quite certain I'll get my fill of sunshine, Vitamin D, and beautiful views.
