Hello Monday.. Christmas Parade

One of the great aspects of the holiday season is the community activities that filter through the region.  A big one in the area I live in is the annual lighted Christmas parade.  It happens in a small town about 30 minutes from the town I live in.  And while our intentions have always been to attend - we never managed to make it... Until this weekend.

Hello pre-parade wait... The little town's main street was packed, but we managed to find a great spot in an area we thought would be over-crowded.  We even managed to sneak in just in time to grab a park bench to sit on.

Hello windmill... The town where the parade takes place is Lynden.  It was settled by a lot of Dutch settlers, and the town took on a distinctive Dutch feel.  A good portion of the signs throughout the town are in both English and Dutch and windmills abound.

Hello, tulips!  Every year at this time, they put up lighted tulips on the street like poles.  I am not sure why tulips at Christmastime, but that is what they do.

Hello, lights!  As the parade began, we knew we were in for a treat.  They did an amazing job!

Hello, rain! As the parade began, so did the rain.  It didn't take long before we were drenched.  Interestingly enough, the rain only contributed to the experience.  While we were wet and shivering from the cold, we were having fun.

And the parade floats kept coming...

Hello, tractors! In an area where the primary industry is agricultural, it isn't a surprise a good portion of the floats were tractors or being pulled by tractors.

Hello, lighted cow!  I thought the lighted cow was a nice touch.  There are a gazillion dairies around the area (okay, not a gazillion but pretty close), so the dairy cow was to be expected.

Hello, Santa! And the parade ended with the big guy... With his sleigh on the bed of a semi-truck, Santa lit up the night sky with a sleigh wrapped in led lights.  The crowd was not disappointed.

Hello, Monday!

  1. This looks much better than any of the Christmas parades around here! Glad you all had fun despite the weather!
