Off to the Garden Center...
We went back to the garden center. Every year we always say we're not going to plant anything but just maintain because we'll be too busy in the summer to do anything but maintain. Plus, it doesn't help the cost of water is so ridiculously high in this area (especially with all the rainfall we get around here) that it's like paying rent twice each month. But, like every year, we go back on our agreement and plant a little garden.
So we went to the garden center...
The primary items we were looking for were herbs. We also wanted to buy cucumbers, but the cucumber plants weren't in yet (we'll be going back in a couple of weeks), but we ended up buying green beans (love them!), herbs, and a few other bits and bobs.
But it was all the color that caught my attention (and the attention of my camera). Take these little berries on the honeysuckle plant. Such a brilliant red!
And I loved the wonderful cast iron trellis the honeysuckle vines were weaved into. I desperately wanted to just buy the trellis but unfortunately, we couldn't buy it without the honeysuckle and we already have several honeysuckle plants in our garden.
But look at these babies... Lovely, aren't they? Rosemary, sage, lavender... Fantastic! We purchase only a few, but plan on buying more when we go back for the cucumber plants.
I could spend hours in the garden center - as long as I have my camera. Actually, if it is the right garden center, I can spend days.
And then there is my favorite flower of all time... Snapdragons. I love all sorts of flowers, but snapdragons get me every time. My family knows that snapdragons are a requirement in my garden every year. And, somehow (don't ask me how) about 60% of my snapdragons come back every year even though they are actually annuals.
But look at the color!
I'm not much of a gardener (I leave that to Mum), but I love gardens. So, in order to have my garden - I need to garden. Luckily for me, I have an arrangement with Mum that I'll set it up... Do the lawn mowing, dig out planting spaces, cut branches, trim junipers, blah, blah, blah... But Mum does the maintenance work. And since I plan on spending many days out in the back garden, under a large umbrella, working on my laptop and listening to the birds chirp and bees buzz - I need to tend to the garden.
Happy Friday!
