Swimsuit Season

It's now swimsuit season.  And I hate it.  Not because I have issues with my body and don't like trying on swimming suits.  Not because I don't want to wear a swimming suit.  It's more because I can never find a swimming suit that I like.

Most swimming suits are really annoying to me.  I want a swimming suit that is comfortable and pragmatic.  I'm an active swimmer, but I also liked to be covered up.  And today's swimming suits are either too frilly, too revealing, or uncomfortable.  But as I look at my swimming suit options for 2012, I realize I'm more drawn to styles that reflect days gone by.  A great example is the above 1920s unisex style above.

I even like this 1940s swimming suit.  I get flashes of Ester Williams and the Vegas-style synchronized swimmers.  But what I really love are these swimming suits...

These sun suits can be found a Dolly Dagger's website - featuring all things vintage.  When I see these, I get images of frolicking by the sea, hair wrapped in scarves, and bright red lipstick (not that I wear lipstick).  My favorite sun suit is the blue one (reminds me of the British flag).  It just so happens to be Dawn's favorite sun suit as well, but she did begrudgingly agree to settle on the pale blue striped one.  Who knows... At 60 pounds a pop, it is is certainly a realistic splurge for some fun in the sun.

  1. I think morbid curiosity drew me to read this post when I saw your title. I dread buying swimsuits. But I do like the pinstripe vintage one you've shown. Think I'll check out that link.
